GEOLOGY AND MARINE GEOPHYSICS

The geology and geophysics unit undertakes survey and mapping within projects where knowledge is required prior to the creation of infrastructures at sea or along the coastline.

It also provides mapping for sediment cartography, geomorphology, biocenotic cartography, contour mapping and research within the field of maritime archaeology.

The principal activities in the field involve mapping and monitoring through the application of techniques such as side scan sonar, multibeam, sub bottom profiler and magnetometry, as well as detailed topographical mapping and geognostic boreholes.
