MARINE ENVIRONMENT AND BIOLOGY

The marine biology unit operates within projects focused upon acquiring knowledge concerning oceanography, the physics, chemistry and biology of the marine environment, which are aimed at the correct management and protection of the natural resources.

The work principally consists of the following: the creation of biocenotic cartography; oceanographic mapping; the chemical-physical and microbiological identification of water and sediments; the characterisation of benthos, nekton and plankton populations; environmental impact assessments and of its effects of the marine coastal environment; studies of the healthiness of the maritime environment and the characterisation of contaminations.
